What is an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital SIM that lets a compatible phone use a mobile plan without inserting a physical SIM card. A travel eSIM adds a line for your trip; it does not automatically replace your home number. [1] [2]
- eSIM: install the digital SIM on a supported phone.
- Physical SIM: insert a removable card into the phone’s SIM tray.
- Both need a compatible device and a suitable plan. eSIM support depends on the exact model and regional version.
How does a travel eSIM work?
Install the travel line, then select it for mobile data when you are ready to connect in a covered destination. Validity for listed plans starts on first network connection in a covered country, not on installation. Our plans show their activation rule before checkout. Check the selected plan and your order email before installing. [5] [6]
Install according to the plan’s start rule
Follow your plan’s stated rule: arrival alone does not start the plan; connecting to a supported network does. The unused-plan activation window is separate from the period of service after the plan starts. [5]
- Install over Wi-Fi, following the instructions in your order email.
- First-connection rule: validity starts on the first supported network connection in a covered country.
- Another rule or unclear details: check the plan and ask support before installing; do not guess.
Check destination plan details for coverage and activation conditions. Keep your QR code and private installation link to yourself. The illustrated device steps below explain installation and connection. [5]
Check the phone before choosing a plan
Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked to use a travel line from another provider. Check the exact model, purchase region and carrier lock; a brand name or an Android version alone does not confirm compatibility. [1] [6]
- Find the exact model in your phone’s settings and confirm the regional version with the manufacturer.
- On iPhone, go to Settings › General › About › Carrier Lock. “No SIM Restrictions” means the phone is unlocked.
- Ask your carrier if the lock status is unclear. Regional and carrier exceptions matter.
Check your exact phone before choosing a plan. An unlisted model is not automatically incompatible.
What is data roaming?
Data roaming lets a mobile line use data on a network outside its carrier’s own network. For our travel-line setup, enable roaming for Travel only so it can use the destination network; keep home-SIM data roaming off. [3] [5]
- Select Travel as your mobile-data line and turn off automatic mobile-data switching.
- Turn on data roaming for Travel only; turn home-SIM data roaming off.
- Keeping home data roaming off does not prevent all home-carrier call or text charges; check with your carrier.
Use the device-specific steps below. If your phone has no separate roaming controls for each SIM, do not assume the home line is protected: the Samsung instructions below explain when to turn it off. Home calls and texts are unavailable while that line is off. [5]
Keep your home number and receive verification codes
On a compatible dual-SIM phone, you can keep your home line alongside a travel data line. Our travel eSIM is data-only: it does not include a phone number, calls or SMS, so it cannot receive SMS verification codes sent to your home number. [1] [2] [4] [6]
- Travel line: use it for mobile data. Messaging and calling apps can use data, but that is not the same as receiving SMS on your home number.
- Home line: keep it enabled if you need its calls or SMS, after checking overseas service and charges with your home carrier. Do not assume codes will arrive or that receiving them is free.
- Before departure — editorial checklist: ask your carrier and bank whether your existing number can receive verification texts abroad, and confirm any alternative verification method already available for your account.
Turning off home data roaming is not a promise of zero home-carrier charges. If a code does not arrive, ask your home carrier or the service sending it; esimdtc does not provide your home-number SMS service. [1] [5] [6]
01 · BEFORE YOU BUY
Will it work on your phone?
Look for an EID
Dial *#06#; if an EID is shown, your phone has an eSIM chip.
Check the carrier lock
Ask your home carrier to confirm your phone is carrier-unlocked before you buy.
An EID confirms a chip, not plan compatibility or an unlocked phone. No EID? Check with the manufacturer; do not assume support. Find your exact model in Settings › About.

iPhone
iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and later eSIM-capable models; regional exceptions apply. Check your exact model with Apple.
Keeping home data roaming off does not prevent all home-carrier call or text charges; check with your carrier.
Install at the right time
Use a stable Wi-Fi connection and your private delivery link. Install on one device only.
Choose how to install
Open the one-tap link on a supported phone, scan the QR from another screen, or use manual entry.
Open Add eSIM
Settings › Cellular / Mobile Service › Add eSIM.
Let installation finish
Follow the phone’s setup prompts; for manual entry, copy the SM-DP+ address and activation code exactly.
Name it Travel; keep it off
Label the new line “Travel” and turn it off until you arrive at your destination.
On arrival: get connected

Keep an eye on usage
Check Settings › Cellular / Mobile Service (with Travel selected for mobile data); on iPhone, reset statistics at the start of your trip if needed.

When your data runs out, connect to Wi-Fi and buy a new plan if you need more.
After the trip

Finish before removing
Turn Travel off; once the plan has ended, you may remove it in your phone’s SIM settings.
Samsung Galaxy
Selected Galaxy S, Z and other models support eSIM, not every Galaxy. Confirm the exact model and region with Samsung.
Keeping home data roaming off does not prevent all home-carrier call or text charges; check with your carrier.
If your Galaxy does not show separate roaming controls for each SIM, turn the home line off before enabling roaming for Travel; home calls and texts will then be unavailable.

WHEN SOMETHING DOESN’T WORK
No connection: check first, do not delete
Keep the eSIM installed. Check the plan’s coverage, remaining data and validity, then confirm Travel is on, selected for mobile data and allowed to roam. Follow the checks below before contacting support; do not guess APN values. [5]
The QR code won’t scan
Connect to Wi-Fi, display the QR on another screen and scan it from Add eSIM in Settings. If that fails, use the one-tap link on a supported phone or enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your private install page. Keep the QR private.
“Unable to complete eSIM setup”
Check Wi-Fi, device eSIM support and carrier-unlock status. Check Settings first: if Travel is already installed, do not install it again. Restart the phone if needed; do not delete the eSIM. Contact us with your order reference and the error message, without installation details.
No signal on arrival
Make sure you are in a destination covered by your plan. Turn on Travel, leave network selection on automatic and briefly turn airplane mode on then off. If needed, restart your phone. Keep the eSIM installed and contact us if it still cannot connect.
Signal is showing, but data is not working
Choose Travel for mobile data and enable data roaming for that line only. Turn off Wi-Fi briefly to test mobile data. Check the plan has data and validity left. Some plans may need an APN. If data still does not work after these steps, contact us with your order reference. Do not invent or change APN values without instructions.
Can I use a hotspot?
Yes. Hotspot (tethering) works on every plan whenever your phone supports it; some phones need it switched on in settings.
I deleted the eSIM
Do not delete the eSIM while troubleshooting. If deleted, contact us before reinstalling on the same device.
My delivery email didn’t arrive
